A feasibility study for a historic building is best carried out by a firm with direct experience of conservation work who can employ the necessary team to establish the following:
• What makes the building special (its history, architectural details, setting etc).
• Its legal status: e.g. Listed, in a Conservation Area, or a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
• Its structural state.
• What repairs are required. This takes the form of a condition survey including a complete list of repairs, advice on their relative urgency, and the methods to be employed.
• Potential uses: the drawback and advantages of each suggestion.
• The overall costs in the form of budget costings.
• Possible sources of finance
